On a course tailor-made for sprinters, the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro predictably ended in a mass sprint. Milan Fretin took advantage of the situation to secure an impressive 7th-place finish.
Over the 190 kilometers of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, the expected scenario played out. With a course relatively favorable to sprinters—featuring only 1,100 meters of elevation gain—the race concluded with a mass sprint among the peloton’s fastest riders.
In the final sprint, Milan Fretin claimed 7th place. The Cofidis rider thus secured another Top 10 finish—his 19th of the season—at the end of a day where the sprinters, as expected, had the final say.
The reaction
Sébastien Demarbaix : "The race ended with three laps of a 4.3-km circuit. It was a bit like a criterium. As expected, it came down to a sprint finish. After his crash in Isbergues—and given how battered and sunburned he was all over—I don’t think we can complain about Milan Fretin’s seventh-place finish. On the other hand, we can be a little disappointed that Stanislaw Aniolkowski wasn’t able to launch his sprint, because with 1.2 km to go, he got boxed in—just like many of the top sprinters. There are almost more strong sprinters behind Milan in the standings than ahead of him. I think we could certainly have secured at least 4th or 5th place with Stan. But Milan earned a well-deserved seventh-place finish through sheer grit after his latest crash."
