Team Cofidis secured another Top 10 finish at Paris-Chauny, held this Sunday over 203.6 kilometres between Margny-lès-Compiègne and Chauny. After a race marked by numerous attacks and a breakaway caught in the final kilometre, Alexis Renard sprinted to 6th place.
From the opening kilometres, six riders went clear, building a lead of up to 3 minutes and 10 seconds over the peloton. As the race progressed over the nine categorised climbs, the peloton increased the pace and gradually reduced the gap.
With 30 kilometres to go, only two riders remained at the front. They were caught with 12 kilometres remaining, triggering a new wave of attacks. With five kilometres to go, four riders still held a 15-second advantage over the peloton.
The breakaway was caught just one kilometre from the finish, setting up a bunch sprint. Team Cofidis had planned to contest the sprint with Stanisław Aniołkowski, but the Polish rider was pushed around in the final sprint and his front wheel was damaged, preventing him from contesting the finish. Alexis Renard stepped up and secured 6th place at Paris-Chauny.
