The team was positioned at the front during this first stage to secure bonus seconds; Sam picked up 7 seconds, which already puts him second in the provisional general classification. The team also made its presence felt in the sprint, with our trainee Lorenzo De Longhi finishing in 11th place.

“The whole team worked hard today. We set out with a plan to get Sam to the front, pick up the bonus seconds and move up the general classification. We were a bit worried that something might happen in the strong wind, so this gave us a double safety net. He rode brilliantly, gained 7 seconds and is now second in the provisional general classification. Even our other riders were in the mix for the sprint, around 11th place. It’s been a pretty good start to the race.”
