La Vuelta 2026 got underway this Saturday in the streets of Monaco with a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial. A short and technical opening effort for the eight Cofidis riders before heading towards Spain.
The riders took their first pedal strokes of this year’s La Vuelta in the heart of the Principality of Monaco, with a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial on a fast and technical course.
The eight Cofidis riders took to the start ramp one after another for this opening test. Luxembourg national time trial champion Alex Kirsch finishing 30th.
Attention now turns to Stage 2 and a 215-kilometre day that could provide a first opportunity for Bryan Coquard.
Reaction:
Bingen Fernández, Sports Director:
“It was quite a technical time trial and, I think, a nice one for the public to watch. We spent the whole day here in Monaco and the team was fully committed to the effort. Alex Kirsch, Luxembourg national time trial champion and a specialist in the discipline, finished 30th. Now we’re already looking ahead to tomorrow, with a long 215-kilometre stage. We’ll also have to see how the riders cope with the heat. It will be a first opportunity for Bryan Coquard.”
