The queen stage of the Deutschland Tour took place this Saturday between Herxheim bei Landau/Pfalz and Bad Dürkheim. Part of the chasing group in the finale, Dylan Teuns took 13th place and now sits 13th overall.
The day began with Yael Joalland in an eight-rider breakaway. However, the peloton never allowed the leaders much of an advantage, and the break was caught with 115 kilometres remaining.
Raced partly under heavy rain, the queen stage then came to life over the final climbs. The favourites made their moves in the finale, with Dylan Teuns and Benjamin Thomas still in the chasing group.
Unfortunately, Benjamin Thomas suffered from stomach issues on the final circuit and was unable to stay with the group. Dylan Teuns remained in contention for the top places and eventually finished 13th in Bad Dürkheim. The Belgian also moves into 13th place overall ahead of Sunday’s final stage in Heilbronn.
Reaction:
Sébastien Hinault, Sports Director:
“Overall, it was a pretty good day. Unfortunately, we lost Benjamin on the final circuit because of stomach issues. It’s a real shame because, without that, he could have been fifth overall tonight. He wasn’t able to stay with the chasing group. Dylan was in that group, which was fighting for fourth place. He finished 13th on the stage and is also 13th overall. So there’s some disappointment tonight, especially because of the issue Benjamin had.”
