The Tour du Limousin came to an end this Friday in Limoges with another podium finish for Alex Aranburu. After a strong team effort throughout the final stage, the Basque rider took 2nd place in the sprint and moved up to 2nd in the final general classification.
Five riders went clear early in the stage. Behind them, the Cofidis team actively contributed to the chase to defend Alex Aranburu’s chances in the general classification.
As the race entered the final circuit in Limoges, several attacks were launched from the peloton. The last breakaway riders were caught with 15 kilometres to go, before more attacks came on the final lap. The peloton eventually came back together with 4 kilometres remaining.
Well positioned after the work of his teammates, Alex Aranburu sprinted to 2nd place. Thanks to the bonus seconds, he also gained one place in the general classification to finish the Tour du Limousin 2nd overall.

“Another podium today with Alex Aranburu taking second place in an uphill sprint, after a huge effort from the whole team throughout the day. The team rode a perfect race; we simply came up against someone stronger than us today.
It’s a bit disappointing not to finish off with a stage win at the Tour du Limousin because we came close several times. But there are no regrets today, we were simply beaten by someone stronger. We can take some satisfaction from finishing 2nd overall thanks to the bonus seconds Alex picked up at the finish line.”
