The second stage of the Deutschland Tour came down to a sprint on Friday in Offenbach an der Queich. After a day raced largely in the rain, Jenthe Biermans took 8th place. Our trainee Lorenzo De Longhi finished 12th, while Benjamin Thomas remains 6th overall.
Three riders quickly went clear on the 196.8-kilometre stage between Schwäbisch Hall and Offenbach an der Queich. With rain falling for much of the day, the peloton controlled the gap before catching the breakaway with around 30 kilometres to go.
As expected, the stage victory was decided in a bunch sprint. Jenthe Biermans took 8th place, while Lorenzo De Longhi also produced a strong sprint to finish 12th. In the general classification, Benjamin Thomas remains in 6th place.

“As expected, the stage came down to a sprint after a day raced almost entirely in the rain. Our goal was to contest the sprint with Jenthe Biermans. Unfortunately, in the final, Jenthe and Lorenzo De Longhi weren’t able to link up. We still need to build a few more automatisms together. We’re still getting to know Lorenzo, our trainee, who is already showing some great qualities. Benjamin Thomas remains 6th overall.”
