The Tour du Limousin got underway this Tuesday between Veyrac and Dun-le-Palestel. Just a few days after his victory at La Polynormande, Hugo Page confirmed his strong form by taking 3rd place in the sprint. Alex Aranburu also finished inside the Top 5, in 5th place.
Cofidis controlling the race
Five riders quickly went clear on this opening stage. Behind them, the Cofidis team took responsibility and played an active role in the chase to keep the gap under control.
With the help of several other teams in the second half of the race, the peloton caught the last breakaway riders with 17 kilometres to go.
The victory was ultimately decided in a sprint in Dun-le-Palestel. Hugo Page produced a strong sprint to take 3rd place, while Alex Aranburu finished 5th, giving Cofidis two riders in the Top 5.
Reaction:
Benjamin Giraud, Sports Director:
“After our great weekend at La Polynormande, we came here with high ambitions. We had to take responsibility for the race for almost the entire day. We worked to control the breakaway, with support from a few other teams in the second half of the race.
It was a very good team effort, with everyone racing really well around our leaders, Alex Aranburu and Hugo Page. We came close to the win today, with Hugo finishing 3rd and Alex 5th. Hugo produced a very strong sprint despite being a little too far back going into the sprint. We’re right in contention for the general classification and focused on the next stages.”
