The fourth stage of the Vuelta a Burgos offered another great opportunity for the sprinters after several more demanding days. The Cofidis team had clearly decided to focus on Alexis Renard for the final sprint.
Throughout the day, the Cofidis riders perfectly paced themselves to put their sprinter in the best possible position heading into the finish. Despite a particularly tense finish, Alexis Renard stayed in contact with the leaders.
Although boxed in for a while in the final few hundred meters, the Frenchman still managed to find an opening to claim 7th place in the sprint. Now it’s time for the fifth and final stage, where the team will aim to wrap up this Spanish week with another strong performance—and perhaps even a move closer to the top 10 in the general classification for Jamie Meehan.

Gorka Gerrikagoitia: “Today was a stage tailor-made for sprinters. We wanted to play the Alexis Renard card. That’s why he came to this Vuelta a Burgos. Three teams controlled the race. We did the work, using all the strength we had to do our best to help Alexis. It was a bit of a chaotic sprint. He got boxed in for a moment, and even though he put in a good sprint, he finished 7th.”
