First day of racing at the 2026 Route d'Occitanie-CIC, and the Cofidis team wasted no time showing their ambitions. In sweltering 35-degree heat, on a rolling 171.5-kilometre course suited to attacking riding, Jamie Meehan quickly made his mark by joining a four-man breakaway. In the move, the Irishman won both intermediate sprints, picking up 6 valuable bonus seconds. He currently sits 3rd in the general classification.
Benjamin Giraud, sports director:
"A stage marked by bad luck on our side with three riders going down in a crash, but the team dug deep. Jamie Meehan went into the breakaway from the start. He won both intermediate sprints and picked up 6 seconds. Then we saw a really attacking team in the finale, with a race full of movement that ultimately came down to a sprint. Edoardo Zamperini couldn't do better than 25th place. Jamie also dealt with a mechanical issue in the final 10 kilometres but managed to get back to the peloton in time. He's currently 3rd overall."
