Facing the grueling final stage of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Sam Maisonobe gave it his all. It was a week full of learning experiences for our young rider.

He gave it his all. Between Beaufort and Plateau de Solaison–Brison, Sam Maisonobe gave it his all to secure the best final overall classification. Finishing 26th overall, our young rider continues to make progress with a positive week at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The reaction

Bingen Fernandez, sports director:
"This final stage of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes was very tough, covering 120 kilometers with four mountain passes: two hors catégorie and two first-category climbs. We knew it would be a bit difficult for Sam Maisonobe.  We tried to get him to do the best he could in the general classification. He was 16th this morning, and we set out with the idea of trying to stay more or less there, but he cracked on the second climb. He didn’t have the legs to keep up.
Benjamin Thomas was with him and did a great job. He finished with a group a little further back and ended up 26th overall. He hung on, he tried to do his best. There isn’t much to say because there were some great champions here. Sam, who isn’t a climber, hung on to give it his all."
