Caught up in a mass crash in the final stretch of the race, the Cofidis team was unable to defend its chances at the Copenhagen Sprint. A frustrating outcome.

The Copenhagen Sprint did not go well for the Cofidis team. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, three of our riders were caught up in a major crash less than twenty kilometers from the finish: Piet Allegaert, Jenthe Biermans, and Milan Fretin. At the finish, a small group of 20 riders battled it out for the win. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to report for our riders who crashed.

The reaction

Sébastien Hinault, sports director:
"Our three riders who crashed are okay. They’ll have some soreness but nothing serious. It happened very quickly in a turn on this circuit, which was already dangerous and made even more so by the rain. We’re frustrated because the team was highly motivated and focused on getting a good result. Unfortunately, this crash split the peloton. Only about twenty riders were left to fight for the win. Milan Fretin is all the more frustrated because this is the second year in a row he’s been caught up in a mass crash that prevented him from sprinting. "
