The French Para Cycling Championships kicked off today in Méjannes-le-Clap, in the Gard, for the fourth edition of the Handi Gard Classic. It is on these roads in the Gard that Cofidis launched their championships week.
Arthur Bauchet, Louis Hubert and Naël Habasque become vice-champions of France in the team time trial. As defending champions, the three Cofidis riders set off at the front of the race at 6:30 PM, on a course of 4.8 km to be completed three times, totalling 14.4 km.
As reigning champions, it fell to them to lead the way. Forced to extend their route by several hundred metres due to a lack of course marking, the riders lost precious time. They ultimately finished second by just a handful of seconds.
Reaction:
Valérie Alexandre, Sports Director:
"The team lost the title due to a technical error by the organisation, which failed to put in place the necessary means for the race to run properly. As defending champions, the Cofidis riders were leading the way. Neither the signage nor the safety measures were in place. The riders therefore extended the course by several hundred metres, which placed them 2nd by just a handful of seconds."
