The opening stage of the Bretagne Ladies Tour between Ploemeur and Plouay ended in a sprint after 120.6 kilometres of rolling terrain, with several climbs of the Côte du Lézot that took their toll on the legs.

Two riders broke away early in the race before being caught. With 20 kilometres to go, a new five-rider move formed with Ema Comte, but the peloton reacted quickly. Despite several attacks from Cofidis in the finale, it was the sprint that decided the day.

Amalie Dideriksen steps onto the podium on the very first stage! The former world champion comes so close to victory in Plouay, taking second place and signing her fourth podium of the season.

Mélanie Briot, sports director:

"The first 50 kilometres were fairly calm. Coming into the final circuit in Plouay, we were really expecting a race of moves with lots of attacks. There was a great attack with Ema Comte, but eventually everything came back together and it turned into a sprint. The team did a great job controlling the race. Unfortunately we don't finish it off today, which is a real shame. But we have to take the positives: it was a real team effort, Marion Borras and Ema Comte don't lose any time in the general classification ahead of tomorrow's time trial, which could suit Marion well. A slight sense of frustration despite Amalie's fine second place today, but we'll be back fighting tomorrow."
