To kick off this 70th edition of the 4 Jours de Dunkerque, the Cofidis team delivered an intelligent and collective race over the 178 kilometres linking Lagny-le-Sec to the medieval city of Laon. At the finish, Bryan Coquard took second place in the sprint.

A breakaway of four riders animated the first part of the race. The peloton let them go before reeling in the escapees around twenty kilometres from the finish, just at the entrance of the final circuit in the narrow streets of Laon. The race then hardened, the peloton stretching nervously through the streets of the medieval city. Sam Maisonobe attempted to attack on the uphill finish 9 km from the line, followed by an attack from Clément Izquierdo who tried to make the race harder. Eventually caught, the peloton arrived together under the flamme rouge. Well positioned and led out by his teammates, Bryan Coquard played the sprint perfectly to finish second behind Laurence Pithie (Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe). Clément Izquierdo finishes sixth.

Bryan Coquard currently sits second in the general classification of the 4 Jours de Dunkerque.

The reaction of Sébastien Hinault, sports director:

« Much better day than yesterday, even if we unfortunately missed out on the win. Great second place for Bryan, after a strong team effort in the finale. We chose to be aggressive, to follow the attacks on the final circuit, then focus on the sprint in the last lap with Bryan. Tomorrow should be another sprint stage, and we will play Bryan's card again. »
