The Classique Dunkerque Hauts-de-France opened Cofidis' northern week this Tuesday. On the agenda: 202 km of racing and a summit finish at Mont-Saint-Éloi, on the outskirts of Arras.
In heavy rain and particularly tough conditions, the team took on the responsibility of leading the peloton in pursuit of three riders who had broken away early in the race. Attacks came thick and fast on the final circuit, before a lone rider held off the peloton to take the win.
Bryan Coquard, held up by a crash in the final 400 metres, finished 14th.
Sébastien Hinault, Sports Director:
"A disappointing day for us. Weather-wise, we had rain throughout the entire race. Unfortunately Bryan was caught up in a crash 400 metres from the line — he nearly had to put his foot down and had to restart from a standstill. He finished 14th. Tomorrow we're hoping for much better, with a uphill finish that could suit Bryan and hopefully improved conditions."
The northern week is far from over. Tomorrow sees the start of the 4 Jours de Dunkerque, a key appointment for Cofidis on home roads.
