One day after the Tour du Finistère, the team was back in action at the Boucles de l'Aulne. The race didn't go Cofidis' way, but the team spirit remained intact throughout.
The Châteaulin course showed no mercy. Nearly 3,000 m of elevation gain, six ascents of the Menez Quelerc'h and a winding, technical route: the Boucles de l'Aulne lived up to its reputation. Four riders went clear early on, before a group of nine formed 40 km from the finish. Cofidis took on their share of the chase, but bad luck struck when Hugo Page crashed along the way. Despite the collective efforts, the breakaway held on to the line. Jenthe Biermans, ever-present, crossed the line in 9th place in Châteaulin, his 7th top 10 of the season.
Evaldas Šiškevičius, sports director:
"It was a demanding course today, with nearly 3,000 m of climbing. We decided this morning to race aggressively and try to follow the moves. Unfortunately, we missed the first move mid-race and it made things difficult for us. We also lost Hugo Page to a crash. We rode behind the ten riders in the break, stayed committed, but couldn't make it back. Jenthe finishes 9th. What I want to take from this weekend is that the team stayed mobilised, together and united, and I'm sure our luck will turn."
