Just like the men’s race, the Women’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège put the entire peloton to the test. Our riders tried to stay one step ahead.

The Cofidis team riders made their move at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. To avoid being dragged along by the race, Mélanie Briot’s riders had to attempt breakaways, much like Julie Bégo’s attack on the Côte de Wanne. Unfortunately, none of them really managed to gain a lead before Demi Vollering flew away to another victory.

The reaction

Mélanie Briot, sports director:
“We tried several times to be part of the breakaways, but unfortunately none of them gained a lead. We absolutely wanted to be at the front to avoid being left behind in the decisive moments. In demanding races like Liège-Bastogne-Liège, we know it’s hard to make an impact, and the girls did the best they could. Ema Comte has only been a pro since August. She hung in there and continues to learn. Julie Bego gave it a shot. Mijntje Geurts has only two days of racing under her belt."
