Opening the road season at the first round of the Coupe de France FDJ United, Cofidis Women Team lined up at the Grand Prix féminin de Chambéry this Sunday. On a demanding course in the heart of the Chambéry basin, Julie Bego rode near the front throughout and crossed the line in 14th place.
122 km, 1,800 m of elevation gain and a punishing finishing climb: the Grand Prix féminin de Chambéry set the tone for this first round of the Coupe de France FDJ United.
Julie Bego rode consistently in the lead group for most of the race before being dropped in the finishing climb with 20 km to go, finishing 14th in the chase group.
It was a tough day for the team, disrupted early by a series of incidents: Ema Comte crashed at km 20, while Nikola Noskova had to change bikes in the opening laps before also going down in the feed zone at km 25. Two key cards lost before the race had even taken shape.
"We're not looking for excuses but we weren't very lucky today. In the first two big laps, Nikola Noskova had to change her bike. Ema Comte crashed after 20 km, Nikola Noskova also crashed in the feed zone after 25 km. We lost two big cards right from the start. It was a tough race all day, with Julie Bego finishing 14th in the chase group. Bad day."Gaëtan Lemoine, sports director
