He is 19 years old and already a star. Two years ago, he won the French Junior Championship ahead of Paul Seixas. Camille Charret, who grew up in Brioude like Romain Bardet, is starting his professional career with Cofidis. After suffering an accident at the start of the season, he recovered quickly and is finally ready to make his debut. And he assures us that he is ready to do whatever it takes to help the team!

My passion for cycling.

"In 2014, the Tour de l'Avenir passed through my hometown of Brioude. I was struck by the atmosphere, the riders speeding by, the buses... At the time, I was swimming, but I wanted to try another sport. Cycling quickly became the obvious choice."

My love of racing.

"What I really like is the freedom and solitary aspect of this sport. Even though we are a team, we are ultimately alone in our efforts and alone in training. I like the idea of being alone with myself when I ride, and I always enjoy watching the landscape go by."

My adaptation to the team.

"Honestly, it went really well! I never felt left out, everyone came to talk to me and it's an atmosphere that helps you reach out to others."

My rehabilitation.

"My accident (he was hit by a car in mid-January) was obviously difficult to deal with. I had a concussion and a broken collarbone, so it wasn't easy mentally. But I managed to stay on track with the help of the team, especially Frédéric Ostian (coach), Evaldas Šiškevičius (sports director) and Annemie Batjoens (doctor). Their support, and the fact that they waited until I was 100% before pushing me to return to racing, meant a lot. "

My goals.

‘I'm really looking forward to discovering the one-day races I'm going to do. I'm expecting a very high level, a lot of intensity... I hope to enjoy myself and, above all, to be able to help the team as much as possible. I really want to do everything I can to help my teammates shine.’

My passions outside of cycling.

In my family, we've always had a very strong connection with animals. We've always had several dogs at home. I like to accompany my father on hunting trips, searching for animals with the dogs in the morning. And in the afternoon, because I don't really like hunting parties, I prefer to get back on my bike!’

My favourite place to train.

Without hesitation, it's at home, around Brioude. There are all kinds of terrain – flat, mountainous, hilly – and the roads are quiet and very pleasant. The tranquillity is really enjoyable, especially as I know the roads by heart!’
