Expected to finish in a bunch sprint between Pueblonuevo del Guadiana and Fuente del Maestre (133 km), Stage 2 unfolded as anticipated on the fast and exposed roads of Extremadura.
Marion Borras made her mark by joining an early breakaway of 12 riders, which was caught at mid-race. During the stage, Ema Comte and Hannah Ludwig were also involved in crashes, fortunately without serious consequences, and were able to continue. In the final kilometres, a crash involving Kristyna Burlova disrupted the team’s sprint preparation.
Despite these setbacks, Ema Comte secured a strong 9th place. Marion Borras claimed the intermediate sprints jersey, while Nikola Noskova finished 11th.
Reaction from Gaëtan Lemoine :
“It was a stage that was expected to finish in a sprint, and that’s exactly what happened. We had designated Kristyna Burlova as our protected rider. Unfortunately, there was a crash in the final. Nothing serious, but it compromised our chances a bit.
Despite that, it’s still a good day: we placed a rider in the top 10 and Marion took the intermediate sprints jersey. The team showed a strong collective performance. We were active throughout the day and we remain in contention for the overall classification.”
