Active in the final, Team Cofidis was not rewarded at the Trofeo Laigueglia. On the Ligurian roads, Alex Aranburu and Sylvain Moniquet finished 12th and 17th respectively.

The race was decided on the final circuit around Laigueglia, featuring the repeated climb of Colla Micheri (1.9 km at over 8%). It was on this climb that the race selection was made, with three riders managing to break clear at the front. Behind them, Cofidis tried to respond in several moves, with Sylvain Moniquet and Alex Aranburu active in the final kilometres. With 13 km to go, the Spaniard attempted to bridge across to the breakaway but was unable to close the gap.

Benjamin Giraud (sports director):
“The race really opened up on the final circuit, where there were a lot of attacks. Three riders managed to go clear and unfortunately we didn’t make it into that move. Behind, we tried to stay active and follow several attacks. The team played its part with riders like Sylvain Moniquet and Alex Aranburu. Alex finished 12th and Sylvain 17th. There is a bit of regret because we were in the mix, but the physical condition is good and that’s encouraging for what’s coming next.”
