Before Bryan Coquard raised his arms in victory at the GP de la Marseillaise, he had been working behind the scenes. Alexis Renard had been busy positioning his sprinter in the best possible way. A few seconds of intense effort were enough to launch ‘Le Coq’ into orbit and help him win. Alexis Renard is a sprinter who knows how to serve his teammates. Now in his 5th season with Cofidis, he is also a pleasant personality, never stingy with a kind word or a smile. He opened up to us.
My passion for cycling.
I started out playing football before damaging my cruciate ligaments at the age of 14. For my rehabilitation, I had to choose between swimming and cycling. I chose cycling and immediately loved it. At first, I started out in my football kit, going on rides with “cyclists”. Then I joined a club and gradually worked my way up the ranks."
My sources of inspiration.
For a long time, I didn't have any because I was still a big fan of football and Cristiano Ronaldo! I didn't have any cyclists as role models either. However, when I was in Israël Start-Up Nation, I had the chance to race and train with André Greipel and Christopher Froome. I was impressed by their work ethic and dedication... It was really inspiring!"
My love of racing.
"I'm surprised to realise that I've been a professional for seven years now. In the off-season, I prepare my bike with the same enthusiasm as ever. I enjoy discovering the programme and the new kit... It's like going back to school. The day I no longer feel that desire, that pleasure, I know it will be time to stop. It's too tough a sport to do without enjoying it!"
My passion outside cycling.
"I really enjoy cooking! Every winter, I take a cooking class with renowned chefs to improve my skills. I love fresh produce and good food, and I also do a bit of baking... I think when you cycle, you enjoy eating well!"
My favourite place to train.
‘Without a doubt, Cap Fréhel! It's near Saint-Malo, a rocky point jutting out into the sea. For me, it's a magnificent place, one of the best views from the Armorican coast. And even if it's sometimes windy, it's very pleasant to cycle there!’
