He has already demonstrated the full extent of his talent in the Cofidis jersey. Right from the first stage of the AlUla Tour, a strong acceleration in the final stretch enabled Milan Fretin to break away and split the peloton. Such is Hugo Page, 24, as determined on the bike as he is in life. The young rider, who gained experience alongside Biniam Girmay, is back with a French team and intends to shine as soon as the opportunity arises. He shared his thoughts ahead of the start of the Tour de la Provence next Friday.
My passion for cycling.
"My grandfather, my father and my uncle have always cycled a bit. I remember a bike ride we did together and I was immediately hooked. We were near where we lived, we had our little finish line after a bend and we did sprints. It was a game, but I really enjoyed it. I had played football before, but I enjoyed it much less than cycling. When you're immersed in this sport, you inevitably end up loving it!"
What I like most about cycling.
"I think it's the adrenaline rush you get. The one you feel in the final moments of a race, when everything speeds up and everything is still to play for. It's really great to feel it every time!"
My integration at Cofidis.
"It went very well! I already had a good feeling with Raphaël (Jeune) and I already knew a few of the riders. I think there's a great atmosphere, ideal for approaching races with confidence. We saw from the very first race, the AlUla Tour, that we got on well together. It bodes well for the future!"
My passions outside of cycling.
"I really like cars. I enjoy learning about their performance, their power, the second-hand market... And when you're behind the wheel, you get a feeling of speed, adrenaline, which is not so different from what you feel on a bike! I also like to relax at home, feel comfortable and spend time with my family and loved ones."
My goals for this season.
"The first is to do everything I can to live up to the team's ambitions and help them perform well. The second is to win and raise my arms in victory! I'm feeling really good at the moment, so I'm keen to keep going. I've never taken part in the Tour de Provence (starting on Friday) but I know it's the kind of race I like. Stages 1 and 3 suit me well... I hope to be in contention from start to finish!"
