The general public discovered her determination on the roads of the Tour de France Femmes with Zwift last year. Julie Bego donned the white jersey for best young rider and kept it until the final stage. Already a world champion in the U23 category, the young woman has no shortage of ambition and makes no secret of it. At the same time, she is happy to show her lighter side and particularly enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, either cycling or fishing.
My passion for cycling.
"I've always done a lot of sport. When I was little, I used to go mountain biking, skiing, hiking... I did a bit of athletics and my favourite event was running. Then one summer, I watched the Tour de France, the one where Romain Bardet finished third (in 2017). It made me want to take up cycling, and that's how I got started!"
What I like most about cycling.
"It's very simple: I like to get on my bike, have fun and have the freedom to go wherever I want. I really enjoy the feeling of exertion, the need to push myself. And of course, I enjoy climbing mountain passes and riding through incredible landscapes. "
My fondest cycling memory.
"In competition, it has to be my Junior Road World Championship title in Glasgow in 2023. It was the culmination of months of preparation and a wonderful collective adventure. The girls I trained with and who supported me all the way became my friends. There was a special atmosphere in Glasgow, in a city we didn't know... It will stay with me forever!"
What I enjoy about Cofidis.
"I'm starting my third season with Cofidis and it's a team I feel comfortable with. There's a family atmosphere, we all know each other, and we all get on well, both the riders and the staff. Alongside this great atmosphere, everyone knows how to remain professional and give their all when it counts."
My favourite place to train.
"Without a doubt, it's at home! Savoie is the most beautiful place in the world, even when there's 30 cm of snow on the ground. Among the roads I like the most are the Montvernier hairpin bends, which are perfect for high-intensity training, and Mont Revard near Chambery."
My passions outside of cycling.
"I'm very curious, I like to know how things work and I enjoy science. I'm continuing my education at engineering school. Otherwise, I really enjoy fishing: I appreciate the connection with nature, the calm, the fact that I can enjoy it. Last year, during a high-altitude training camp, I brought my gear with me! "
My main goals for the season.
‘I'm aiming for a good result in the Ardennes classics, especially Liège-Bastogne-Liège. It's a classic that suits me well! After that, there's the Tour de France Femmes with Zwift. I'd like to wear the white jersey and, above all, keep it until the end!’
