The breakaway finishes first today at the Giro and this should be the case again in the coming days according to Cédric Vasseur. This should give the Cofidis riders opportunities to impress us in the next stages.
Nothing is easy in a big Tour, especially the full power performance on a daily basis. The Giro continued its route for the 8th consecutive day and this time the road went along the Adriatic coast, crossed the Gargano Park and branched off at Monte Sant'Angelo, a 3rd category climb before the finish line in Vieste.
"We'll have to take our chances"
"We knew that the teams would do everything they could to prevent Arnaud Démare from having another opportunity to sprint. That's what made this breakaway possible and we quickly understood that it could go to the finish line," explains Cédric Vasseur, who arrived yesterday on the roads of the Giro.
It's a scenario that will certainly happen in the next few days and we'll have to try our luck to be in this breakaway. »
Attacking Roccaraso
Tomorrow, we will have to redouble our efforts on the road to Roccaraso during one of the most difficult stages of the event. A total of 208 km will have to be crossed with four major difficulties to overcome: the Passo Lanciano (1st cat. at 6.9%), the Passo San Leonardo (2nd cat. at 4.3%), the Bosco di Sant'Antonio (2nd cat. at 4.5%).
And finally, the runners will have another 9.6 km of ascent (at 5.7%) to reach the finish in Roccaraso. Then they will finally be able to take a break and enjoy the first rest day of this Giro.
