GIRO D'ITALIA - STAGE 2 A DIFFICULT DAY BEFORE L'ETNA !

On particularly tricky roads in the heart of Sicily, three riders from Cofidis crashed this Sunday before reaching the finish line. Tomorrow, it is time for the climb of Mount Etna and the first summit finish of this Giro.

Nicolas Edet, the brave one

For the Cofidis riders, the stage wasn't very smooth. In the intermediate sprint, Elia Viviani, well positioned behind Démare and Gaviria, had a harmless fall. A few minutes later, Simone Consonni, who was waiting for his leader, also fell down. Nevertheless, the two Italians easily rejoined the peloton.

Then, with around 20 kilometres to go, it was Nicolas Edet who was unlucky. Nicolas, who had already fallen the day before, was hurt in the knee.  Nevertheless, he bravely made it to the finish line.

Tomorrow, the first big stage of this Giro will take place: 150 km of which 18,8 km of final climb with slopes that sometimes exceed 13 % in difference in altitude. Indeed, the riders are attacking Etna and it is rare, during the cycling season, to have the privilege to climb on a volcano. It is the 5th time in the history of Giro that the roads of the race will take the steep paths of Etna. Enough to put on quite a show!
